If you have the flatback crystal in your possession, lay a ruler on a flat surface. Place the bedazzling gem alongside the millimeter (mm) side of the ruler, lining the edge up with the zero mark. Note the marking at the widest part of the rhinestone. Then, you can use this millimeter measurement and a reference chart to determine its stone size.

What if you don’t have any faux gems on hand to help visualize your design? Use your ruler to make the millimeter-sized markings on a sheet of paper. Then, place a coin next to your marking to get a general idea of the dimensions.

2. Calipers

This instrument measures the linear distance between two opposite sides of an object. Simply open the caliper’s jaws around the object you want to measure and note the exact measurement. Customarily, you’ll find several different types of calipers:
