DIY Bling Christmas Ornaments with our Free Template
Christmas arrives shortly after the shortest day of the year, and when the darkness of night is at its peak. However, twinkling holiday lights hold the promise of hope. Additionally, glittery decorations on the tree add a festive and magical glow. Instead of buying expensive bling Christmas ornaments, use our template to make your own. Make Beautiful Bling Christmas Ornaments Using Our Template
If you want to take your decoration up a notch this year, why not create beautiful, bedazzled ornaments? Crystal rhinestone decorations offer an incredible play of light with a magical shimmer against the backdrop of lights.
Yet, often the trouble with blinging round ornaments lies with planning the design and spacing. For example, when creating bedazzling clothes, you can lay out the garment flat to check the rhinestone pattern. This can be impossible with a round object. While straight lines and scatter patterns are fairly simple, swirls and curves prove problematic. Often, you begin your gluing rhinestones with high hopes, only to find your spacing is off. Sometimes, crafters will create templates using a Cricut. This machine can precisely create custom designs. However, a Cricut can easily cost several hundred dollars. Instead, our template can help you create complicated, intricate designs. The grid lines allow you to carefully plan the design and spacing of each rhinestone flat back gem. Our rhinestone ornament template is a flat representation of a typical 8-inch round ball. If you have a smaller or larger ornament, you can shrink or enlarge our template. Or, you can create your own by creating a single segment and then connecting the segments to make a sphere. The Best Rhinestones For Bedazzling Ornaments
Typically, high quality rhinestones create the most play of light. Manufacturers create sparkle through the use of three key characteristics:
1. Material
Generally, manufacturers use one of 3 different materials to make rhinestones:
Each material has certain properties for absorbing and reflecting light. Overall, crystal rhinestones are the best imitators of real gems for a diamond like sparkle. 2. Number of Facets
Facets are flat surfaces cut on the rhinestone’s surface. These facets act as mirrors, reflecting light to the viewer’s eye. While generally more facets create more sparkle, the arrangement and symmetry of facets are equally important.
3. Arrangement of Facets
Typically, rhinestones with a more complex facet pattern appear more sparkling to the human eye. Brand name crystal rhinestone manufacturers carefully calculate facet arrangement to optimize the light interaction.
Choosing Your Bedazzling Glue and Storing Your Bling Christmas Ornaments
Typically, most manufacturers use glass or plastic to make Christmas ornaments. Several glue manufacturers recommend their product for these surface types. For example, Aleene’s makes several different adhesives that are suitable for gluing rhinestones.
However, many crafters forget to think about storage when choosing their glue. Furthermore, some glues aren’t resistant to high temperatures. Often, many people store Christmas ornaments in their attic. However, summertime attic heat can rise above the maximum heat resistance of many glues. As heat affects the glue bond, the crystal rhinestones can shift from their original positions. Although E6000 can withstand higher temperatures, the constant exposure to attic heat may weaken the glue bond. Thus, you may want to store your bling ornaments in a more temperature-controlled environment. Where to Buy Rhinestones Online
Although some craft stores sell rhinestones, these are often in limited colors, sizes, and quantities. Yet, searching online will yield many retailers with different product offerings.

Simple Rhinestone Placement Ideas for Dance Costumes
Bedazzling a dance costume adds depth, texture, and visual interest. Moreover, adding crystal rhinestones can elevate a simple design into an imaginative composition. However, blinged out costumes are pricey, and the manufacturer may use a lesser quality of crystal bling. Instead, you can DIY bedazzle a competitive dance dress, saving yourself money. Below, we provide a few simple rhinestone placement ideas to help you begin.
Rhinestone Placement Ideas - Design InspirationUsing templates can help you achieve symmetry and accurate spacing between the rhinestones. And, you can easily replicate the bedazzle pattern on different parts of the dress. Moreover, you can use our templates on competitive skating dresses, as well as other apparel and accessories.
To use our templates, simply download the pattern and print it out. Punch out holes as indicated on the rhinestone template by using a punch tool. Hollow punch tools create holes in various sizes and are available in many craft stores. Next, lay the template on the dress and mark the holes with a piece of chalk or disappearing fabric marker. Then, before gluing, lay the crystal rhinestones on the marks to view the effect. Adjust the rhinestone placement according to your liking by moving them closer or further apart. Sometimes, you may need to modify the rhinestone pattern size to fit the costume size. A pattern that’s too small creates a weak focal point, while a too large design can be over-dominating. Once you like the positions, you’re ready to glue them into place. Creating Your Rhinestone Designs
Sometimes, a costume will naturally have certain areas to bling for dramatic effect. For example, placing rhinestones along a neckline, hemline, or seamline. Scatter patterns are another easy rhinestone design to undertake.
Other times, the placement may seem easy but prove problematic for someone new to bedazzling. For instance, lines may look perfectly straight when lying flat, yet crooked when worn by the dancer. Using a body form to stretch the material can help achieve a symmetrical look. The Importance of the Rhinestone Color In Costume Design
Undoubtedly, color plays an important part in rhinestone design. Particular color combinations create vivid and intense contrasts, while others neutralize each other. Furthermore, color perceptions can evoke different emotions, something very important in a dance piece.
To further confuse the issue, many rhinestone manufacturers offer over a hundred hues. Plus, color variations in saturation and value exist between manufacturers. Additionally, many companies also offer Aurora Borealis products. These are standard colors with an AB coating, allowing the standard color to show, but with an additional rainbow effect. Combining both the standard and AB colors adds dimension and texture, as movement results in an explosion of color. Ultimately, choosing the best rhinestone color for your project is a personal preference. Do you want a bold and vibrant pop of color, or subtle, blended hues? Alternatively, you can choose crystal or crystal AB, with tones and chroma that match everything. Of course, it’s perfectly acceptable to mix stones from different manufacturers to achieve the look you want. Rhinestone Sizing
Furthermore, rhinestone sizing also affects the impact of your design. Depending on the rhinestone manufacturer, flatback crystals range from tiny 5ss to large 50ss. Fundamentally, we can group the sizes into these categories:
Larger stones offer a greater visual impact due to the facet area of light reflection. However, grouping small stones creates a cluster effect that produces sparkling dazzle from any angle. Typically, designers will use smaller crystals for intricate bedazzle patterns and larger stones for a bold impact. The goal is to achieve a well-balanced design with a sense of equilibrium. For example, using too many large rhinestones can overpower the other elements. However, smaller stones cover less area, so you will need more of them to complete your design. Mixing sizes adds depth by allowing the light to bounce unpredictably between sizes. Generally, 16ss, 20ss, and 30ss are the most common sizes for dance costume designs. Using bling crystals to bedazzle is a fun, vibrant way to customize T-shirts with a unique, personalized design. Moreover, DIYing can save you plenty of money. Yet, after gathering your supplies, you’re faced with deciding on the rhinestone placement. Below, we provide a few general guidelines to help you create the perfect blinged out shirt. Rhinestone Placement - Spacing
Bedazzling takes many forms. Rhinestones can beautify tumblers, formal wear, shoes, pocketbooks, and clothing. Some of these bling projects involve covering the object in crystals. For example, crafters will glue the embellishments end to end with little spacing in between to bling tumblers. Other projects, like stoning dance costumes or bedazzling T-shirts, require a more thoughtful process.
Ultimately, spacing, the area between each rhinestone, can greatly affect the overall effect of your design. In a fill pattern, closely placed crystals create a dense, sparkling effect. Moreover, spacing rhinestones closely together or end to end creates smoothly flowing lines. However, spacing rhinestones slightly, like ¼ inch, will save you money by using fewer bling crystals. Furthermore, a small gap between stones allows the fabric to stretch. Of course, many expensive, commercial rhinestone machines churn out designs easily and quickly. However, today we’ll be focusing on easy DIY solutions so you can create beautiful rhinestone patterns at home. Rhinestone Stencils Help with Crystal Placement
When creating a specific design, rhinestone templates can be invaluable. This tool helps create uniform and cohesive patterns. You can make your own or download one of our free crystal templates.
To create your bedazzled shirt, you can use either flatback or hotfix rhinestones. For glueable rhinestones, center your template on your shirt. You can mark the rhinestone placement with a piece of chalk or lay the crystals inside the holes. After removing the stencil, you can make any necessary adjustments to your design. Then, simply glue the rhinestones into place. Creating a hotfix transfer design requires the use of transfer paper. This tool has a clear sticky part and an opaque, nonadhesive piece. First, lay a piece of wax paper over your stencil. Place hotfix rhinestones on the wax paper, facet side up, following the design. Next, take the clear, sticky piece of the transfer paper. Gently press it onto the top of the crystals, ensuring they all stick. Now, you are ready to attach your rhinestone design to your shirt. How to Center Your Rhinestone Transfer Design
Rhinestone placement also involves centering your design for a professional look. Some handy tools to help with crystal design positioning are placement rulers. These specialized measurement tools help you align transfer designs both vertically and horizontally. You can also use a simple ruler and mark your shirt with chalk or temporary fabric markers.
Typically, your neckline and side seams can help determine the position of your rhinestone design. Using the side seams, measure the width of the front. Divide this measurement by 2 to locate the front center, marking it with chalk. This is the location of the horizontal center of your design. Now, you need to determine the vertical position of the shirt. Typically, the position from the neckline will vary based on the type:
Sometimes, you may need to make some adjustments based on the measurement of your rhinestone design. For example, a taller vertical design may need to sit lower. Comparatively, a narrow horizontal one may require a higher position. While centering is important, remember that any variations of 1/4 or less won’t be noticeable. Buying Rhinestones Online

You’ve decided to create some bedazzled clothes and bought supplies. Yet, when you lay out your dress to stone, you’re not sure where to begin. You’ve seen some rhinestone pattern ideas on Pinterest, but these seem a bit complicated for a beginner. One easy arrangement is the scattered rhinestone pattern. How to Create a Scattered Rhinestones Pattern
Often, choosing simple rhinestone pattern ideas is best when you’re a beginner. One easy rhinestone design is the scatter pattern with randomly placed rhinestones. You can use this pattern on dresses, tee shirts, and accessories. Plus, this easy design is virtually foolproof and has some unique variations.
Usually, scattering rhinestones won’t have a structure and require random placement. A variation is to begin with a center point of closely placed crystals. Then, as you move away from this center, you increase the space between the rhinestones. This variation gives the appearance of an explosion. Additionally, you can create a design with a negative space. This design idea uses the scatter pattern around a word or symbol. To create this design, create a template of the shape of the negative space. The picture above shows this technique. First, cut out a template of your shape. Then use scotch tape to place the template on your garment. Glue rhinestones to your garment spacing those next to the template fairly close together. Furthermore, avoid getting glue on your template because you’ll need to remove it once you’re done gluing rhinestones. You can continue to space the rhinestones close together, or space them further apart as I did. Once you’ve glued all your rhinestones into place, you’ll need to let your garment lay flat for 24 hours. Then, remove the paper template and you're ready to wear your bedazzled clothes. Unique Variations for a Scatter Pattern
Of course, you can take this simple rhinestone idea and alter it to make it more unique. For example, using different size rhinestones throughout the pattern will add depth and texture to your design. Or, you can use bigger sized stones in the center gradually shifting to smaller sized rhinestones. This gives the illusion of fading off into nothingness.
Likewise, color plays an important part in your overall design. For instance, alternating between light and dark colors creates drama and interest. Or combine a standard rhinestones color with the AB counterpart to add a lustrous rainbow-like play of color. The ombre effect of transitioning from one color to another is also very popular. How Can I Transfer A Design To My Apparel?
As you move on to more complicated rhinestone designs, you’ll probably need to mark the placement of your design. Basically, you can choose a few different methods for transferring your design to your clothing. Stencils can be very helpful and you can find a wide selection online and at craft stores. You can also make rhinestone templates.
Painters or masking tape is another good tool for marking boundaries. Of course, fabric pencils used for sewing work great and you can easily remove the markings. What’s The Best Rhinestone Glue To Use?
You’ll find several good rhinestone glues at your local craft store. Our favorite is Gem Tac for applying rhinestones to clothing. It’s easy to use, washable, and dries clear. Some other favorites are:
When choosing your glue, check with the manufacturer for suggested use. Some glues work better on some surfaces than others. Can You Recommend a Quality Rhinestone?

Moreover, you’ll find plenty of YouTube videos and blogs describing how to make your own. However, while many DIYers explain the method of attaching rhinestones, many bypass the designing process. We offer a free rhinestone template to create a beautiful, bedazzled shirt. For beginners, using a template is a very convenient tool for showing the placement and quantity of crystalline embellishments. How To Use Our Free Rhinestone Template
You can use our free rhinestone template to create a solid heart shape. This free template works with any size rhinestone. The shape will be either smaller or larger depending on your choice of rhinestone size.
For example, Preciosa Maxima Rhinestones 20ss measure 4.6 mm. Thus, your finished heart design will extend to about 101 mm by 110 mm (about 4 inches by 4.5 inches). Using size 16ss ( 3.8 mm) will give you a finished design of 83 mm by 91 mm (3.25 by 3.5 inches). Moreover, your finished rhinestone heart will also be larger if you leave space between the rhinestones. To recreate the heart design, simply count the red dots to see how many rhinestones you’ll need. For the pink dots, you have 2 choices. You can use the same size as the red dots or choose one size smaller for a more rounded appearance. Hotfix Vs. Flatback Rhinestones?
With this type of rhinestone design, you can use flatback or hotfix rhinestones. Comparatively, using hotfix rhinestones to make an iron on transfer may be a bit easier than gluing flatbacks.
If you choose hotfix rhinestones, you’ll also need transfer paper. Rhinestone transfer paper has 2 pieces, a non-sticky opaque piece and a clear sticky sheet. To use transfer paper with this design, print out our template. You may have to enlarge the size so that the dots match the size of the rhinestones. Peel off the clear part of the transfer paper and lay it on top of the template, sticky side up. Place the rhinestones facet-side down in the dots on the sticky part of the transfer paper, filling in the heart shape. To glue flatbacks to fabric, we prefer Gem-Tac for its ease of application. For this method, you use the template as a guide. Begin your design by gluing the rhinestones along a center line, horizontally or vertically. Moreover, you may want to use a ruler to keep your lines straight. If you have a Cricut machine, you can make holes for rhinestone placement. Of course, you’ll want to remove the background dots first. Additionally, you’ll need to convert it into an SVG file format version. Creating Your Rhinestone Design
While using a preformed template offers a starting point, you may want to create different designs. You’ll find several ways of design creation from using Cricut machines to computer programs. As you begin your journey with rhinestone design, you can start with a simple method to save on costs.
We offer several free rhinestone template designs that you can download. Furthermore, you can read about how to make a simple rhinestone template using a punch tool. For this project, we used Photoshop to convert a simple image into a color dot pattern. Spiral Betty is a free program that can also turn an image into dots. Choose Quality Rhinestones for Your Bling Project
Although you don’t need to choose the most expensive rhinestones for your bling project, avoid using cheaply made embellishments. Often, poorly made rhinestones will have color variations for the same hue. They may contain bubbles within their structure giving the embellishment a cloudy appearance. Comparatively, cheaply made rhinestones won’t have much sparkle or shine as compared to higher-end embellishments.
For over 10 years, Rhinestones Etc. has been supplying dancers, skaters, and businesses with high-quality crystal rhinestones. We offer super-fast processing times with most orders shipping out the same day. Plus, we offer a large selection Preciosa Rhinestones as well as the cost-effective PriceLess brand. Generally, applying rhinestones to clothing occurs in a particular pattern. Whether you want to create an object or a word design, the rhinestone placement must occur in a certain arrangement. A template helps you to maintain the symmetry and spacing between rhinestones easily. How To Design Rhinestone Patterns
Word processing programs make creating word templates super easy. Plus, you can choose from a variety of fonts and letter sizes. Furthermore, you can make more than just word templates. Let’s say you want to add a bird, heart, or dragon to a T-shirt. You can find drawings of many of these objects online for free. First, place the rhinestones template on your cutting board and position a punch tool. Then, tap the top of the punch tool several times with the hammer. Continue making holes around the perimeter, spacing the holes as needed. Another method to cut out your design is to use an X-Acto knife. Next, take your template and lay it flat on your shirt. You can use a piece of chalk to mark the position of rhinestones or lay rhinestones inside the holes. Remove the template and make any necessary spacing or rhinestone placement adjustments. Now, you’re ready to glue them into place. If you want to make a hotfix rhinestone transfer design, place a piece of was paper over your template. Position the rhinestones on the wax paper with the facet side up, following the template outline. Take your transfer paper and separate the layers. Place the clear piece over the rhinestones with the sticky side down, gently pressing on the design. Peel away the wax paper, and your hotfix transfer design is ready to use. Frequently Asked Questions About Rhinestones
Are you excited to begin creating bedazzling clothing, but have a few more questions? We’ve put together our most commonly asked ones.
Which Type Of Rhinestones Should I Use For My Project?
For years, many consumers used Swarovski Rhinestones for their projects. Known for quality embellishments, it was the premier brand to buy. Unfortunately, several months ago, the company began a restructuring project that took them out of the retail market.
However, the Preciosa brand has a far longer crystal making tradition than Swarovski. Preciosa draws upon over 470 years of glassmaking tradition from independent artisans. In 1948, these separate factories merged into one company. Plus, many other lesser-known manufacturers produce crystal, glass, or acrylic rhinestones. In particular, the Asian markets produce both MC and DMC rhinestones in glass and crystal with different price points. Quality and grading vary among manufacturers, so when in doubt, check online reviews. If possible, try to obtain a sample. What Is The Best Rhinestone Adhesive?
Undoubtedly, the most popular method of attaching rhinestones to clothing is with glue. This process for gluing rhinestones to fabric is fairly simply, resulting in a stunning result.
Moreover, you can choose from several types of adhesives:
All these adhesives are washable and dry clear. However, some are easier to work with than others. While many consumers like E6000, this glue tends to be gloppy. Our preferred glue for adhering rhinestones to fabric is Gem-Tac. How Many Rhinestones Will I Need?
Comparatively, the number of rhinestones you need for your project depends upon the size of the design and the rhinestones. However, choosing a size, like color, is a personal preference. Keep in mind, that smaller stones offer a more subtle sparkle but work well in intricate rhinestone designs.
Furthermore, manufacturers use a unique type of measurement to designate rhinestone sizes. Generally, a larger number next to the “ss” classification is a bigger rhinestone. Likewise, the smaller the number, the tinier the rhinestone. Moreover, the design spacing will also determine your quantity. Where Can I Buy Quality Rhinestones?

American Flag Template - Free Printable Rhinestone Design
The celebration of America’s independence on July 4th holds the promise of cookouts, picnics, and fireworks. For a festive look, many homeowners like to drape red, white, and blue bunting across their porches. You can show your pride for your country by wearing a bedazzled shirt you DIY using our American flag template.
How to Use Our American Flag Template
History credits Betsy Ross with the design of the original American Flag. However, it wasn’t until 1912 that the specific layout was determined by law. While the law dictates proper usage of the flag, you can use an image of it on clothing.
Creating a glittering rhinestone embellished tee shirt is a wonderful way to show off your patriotic spirit. Our American flag template makes it easy for you to bedazzle a shirt with rhinestones. We offer 2 different templates that you can download for free. Both show the placement and rhinestone color needed to create a patriotic bedazzled T-shirt. Furthermore, you can use any rhinestone size. Before beginning your bling project, prewash and dry your shirt. Usually, manufacturers apply chemicals to clothing that can affect the absorbency of the rhinestone glue. Choose a work spot offering a flat surface to lay your shirt. Hotfix Vs. Glue on Rhinestones
While there are several different ways to attach rhinestones to fabric, hotfix or glue on works best with this project. If you choose flatback rhinestones, you’ll need to punch holes in the template where indicated. You can do this with a Cricut machine or a hole punch set. Then, lay the template on your shirt and mark the placement of rhinestones using chalk or a water-soluble sewing marker.
To glue rhinestones, place a drop of glue slightly smaller than the rhinestone on one of the marks. When you gently press the rhinestone into the glue drop, some of the glue should ooze from the sides. This creates a seal that helps prevent the rhinestone from peeling off. Continue gluing in this manner until your design is complete. Typically, craft stores carry several different adhesives. The best glues for bedazzling dry clear and are washable. Our favorite rhinestone glue for fabrics is Gem-Tac for its ease of use. Alternatively, you can also use hotfix rhinestones and transfer paper to make an iron on transfer. Simply lay a piece of wax paper over the template. Then, place the hotfix crystals on the wax paper facet side up in the spaces indicated. Peel apart your transfer paper and place the clear sticky part over your iron on rhinestones. Gently press down on the transfer paper to make sure the bedazzling crystals stick to the clear part. Once you’ve created the rhinestone transfer, you’re ready to adhere the design to your shirt. You can use a heat press or non-steam iron to activate the glue. Furthermore, heat activated crystals are great for clothing that gets a lot of wear and wash. Plus, it’s less time-consuming to apply the crystals. Choosing Your Rhinestone Brand
Today, you’ll find a seemingly unlimited number of suppliers when searching rhinestones for clothes. Companies like Temu, AliExpress, and Amazon have realized the potential of selling bedazzling crystals and carry stock. However, not all rhinestone manufacturers use the same material or processes to create their products. Thus, some crystals may not have the quality or sparkle you want.
Typically, rhinestone manufacturers may use one of 3 different materials: 1. Plastic
Sometimes, you may see these rhinestones types labeled as acrylic, jelly, or resin. Made from synthetic and natural materials, manufacturers inject or compress their compounds into molds. Although the least expensive option, these rhinestones also have the least sparkle.
2. Glass
For thousands of years, craftsmen melted sand to produce glass. Early artisans found many different uses for glass including beads for jewelry. Later on, manufacturers added other ingredients like soda ash and lime to add strength and durability. With new properties, artisans could cut facets. Today, glass rhinestones are a popular in-between choice for their price and sparkle.
3. Crystal
Crystal is a type of glass created with the addition of lead, barium, zinc, or potassium oxide. It’s denser, stronger, and clearer than simple glass. This allows manufacturers to cut more facets into the stone. Although it’s the most expensive type of rhinestone, it also produces the greatest amount of sparkle.
In addition to material, rhinestones also have a different number of facets and arrangements. Facets interact with light acting as a mirror and reflecting it to the viewer. Ultimately, their angle and alignment will affect the rhinestone’s sparkle. For even light distribution, facets must be symmetrical and uniform. Rhinestones Etc. currently offers 2 high-quality brands, Preciosa and PriceLess. Both are high-quality crystal rhinestones. Moreover, we provide same-day shipping when you order before 2 PM. Browse our online store to find the perfect rhinestone color for your project. DIY “Love” Rhinestone Template For Your Crystal DesignVery often, we use the word “love” to describe a variety of things we care about. For example, I love chocolate (well, who doesn’t), or I love that outfit. We also use it to describe human relationships, as in “I love you”. Not far off is Valentine’s Day, the holiday to celebrate love. One way to celebrate is to wear a blinged out t-shirt emblazoned with the word “love” on it. Our downloadable rhinestone template makes it easy to make your very own rhinestone t-shirt. Even if you have never blinged out anything before, you can easily make this shirt. How to Use Our Rhinestone TemplateFirst, download the template. The template tells the size and quantity of the rhinestones you will need. Decide on a rhinestone color. You can use crystal on any colored shirt or try another color, such as red or black, on a contrasting color. Next, decide whether you want to use hotfix rhinestones or flatback (glue-on) rhinestones. Both are easy to use and are a matter of preference. If you choose hotfix rhinestones, you will need either a hot fix tool or transfer paper. Glue on rhinestones will require an adhesive. How to Make a Hot Fix TransferHotfix rhinestones already have glue on them. Using transfer paper with them makes the process super easy. Lay out the rhinestones facet side up according to the pattern. Peel the transfer paper from its backing and gently place the sticky side on top of the rhinestones. Gently press down so that the rhinestones stick to the transfer paper. Position the rhinestone transfer on your t-shirt. Heat up your iron to the hottest setting without steam. When hot, gently press down on the transfer holding for about 15 seconds. Pick up the iron and reposition the iron to another part of the rhinestone transfer. Repeat this process until all the rhinestones have been heated. DO NOT slide the iron as this may dislodge and move the rhinestones. Allow to cool for a few minutes and then remove the transfer paper. Your shirt is now finished. An alternative is to use a hot fix tool. As with the glue on method, lay out the rhinestones on the shirt and remove one rhinestone at a time to heat. How to Use the Rhinestone Template with Glue-On RhinestonesFlatback rhinestones require the use of an adhesive. My favorite glue for fabrics is Gem-Tac. It is perfect for gluing rhinestones to fabric, dries clear, is washable and is easy to apply. Place the rhinestones on your shirt according to the template. Then, when you are ready to glue, pick up one rhinestone off the shirt. Squeeze a drop of glue just slightly smaller than the rhinestone in its place. Press the rhinestone into the glue drop. Some of the glue should seep out from the edges. This is necessary to form a seal which helps to keep the rhinestone from peeling off. Continue gluing in this manner until all the rhinestones have been glued in place. While hot fix rhinestone glue dries quickly, adhesives for flat back need to dry flat for 24 hours. Additionally, our finished rhinestone transfer measures 7.75 inches by 3 inches. Combine it with our heart template for even more bling! Wear it on Valentine’s day or whenever you feel like showing your love. Need rhinestones to bling out your shirt? Rhinestones Etc. has discount prices and great customer service! DIY Rhinestone Jeans – Create Your Personalized, Unique Look
Jeans are one of the most versatile items in any wardrobe. Pair them with a different top, shoes, or accessories, and transform your outfit from casual to business or dressy. Or, choose a pair of bedazzled denim pants for a cosmopolitan and glamorous look. Yet, why pay a high price when you can DIY rhinestone jeans and create your unique look?
How to: DIY Bling for Jeans
Attaching rhinestones to clothing is easy and simple once you learn the methods of application. The most popular method for attaching rhinestones to fabric is gluing. While you’ll find several suitable rhinestone glues, my favorite for fabrics is Gem-Tac. It dries clear, is washable, and the flow is easy to control. Plus, it works well with denim. Many people also like E6000 for gluing rhinestones to fabric.
Although gluing is an easy method for attaching rhinestones, there is a technique to it. If done incorrectly, your bedazzling crystals may fall off in the wash. When gluing rhinestones, use a drop of glue slightly smaller than the rhinestone. As you press the crystal into the glue, some of the glue should seep out from around the sides. This produces a seal that helps protect the rhinestone from peeling off. Another option is to use hotfix rhinestones. These crystals have glue on the flat side of the gem. Heating the rhinestone activates the glue. Then when it cools, forming a strong and permanent bond. Typically, hotfix rhinestones are the preferred choice for frequently worn and washed clothing. Alternatively, you can use metal settings to attach flatback (non hotfix rhinestones). Metal settings hold rhinestones in place with metal legs that wrap around the crystal. Rhinestones attached with metal settings are very secure. Finally, you can choose the sew-on rhinestones to hand stitch the crystals to your garment. Additionally, you can glue and sew these crystals into place for a more secure attachment. Some Simple Pattern Ideas for DIY RhinestoneJeans
Now that you’ve decided to DIY bling for jeans, how do you decide on a design? If you’re a beginner, you can start with something simple. Bedazzled jeans with rhinestones on the pockets are trendy and very easy to do. Moreover, the top hem of the pocket can work as a guide to keep the crystals in a straight line.
Another idea is to scatter rhinestones along the outside pant leg seam. Before you begin gluing, place masking/painter’s tape on the jeans to mark the placement boundaries of the rhinestones. Doing so will give you nice, clean lines. You can also combine fabric paint with rhinestones for a mixed-media type of embellishment. One of the easiest ways to fabric paint is to use stencils. Embroidery and cross-stitch pattern books are usually good places to find designs Often, you can find them at your local craft store. Additionally, you can make your own. Simply print a design onto cardstock, then cut it out with an X-ACTO knife. After painting your garment, accent it with rhinestones to make your artwork pop. What Rhinestone Size and Color Works Best?
Most rhinestone manufacturers offer a variety of colors. Often, your choices are a personal preference. Typically, crystal and crystal AB are popular options that match everything. For an accent color, choose a complementary color that is exactly opposite on the color wheel.
Likewise, the best crystal size is a matter of taste. Some people like to make a bold statement, while others prefer a little sparkle. Yet, choosing a rhinestone size can be confusing since manufacturers use a unique method of measurement. Usually, retailers will list crystalline products by stone size along with the accompanying millimeter measurement. For creating bling jeans, you may want to use 12ss, 16ss, or 20ss. Additionally, you can use a variety of sizes to give depth to your design. Ready to start your DIY rhinestone jeans project? Rhinestones Etc. has quality rhinestones at competitive pricing. DIY Jewelry: How to turn an ordinary pendant into something extraordinary Rhinestones have the power to transform anything plain and ordinary into an eye-catching sparkly creation! After searching through the clearance rack at a craft store, I found this plain plastic pendant for only 1$. While a nice piece, that is nothing special about it until I decided to turn it into my next project and transform it into a blinged out pendant. For this project I used: 1 plastic pendant on clearance from the craft store E6000 12ss crystal, black diamond and jet hematite rhinestones Wax tipped tool or tweezers The pendant is a dark brown color. I decided on a scatter pattern with crystal rhinestones outlining the outside edge of the pendant, black diamond outlining the inside edge of the pendant, and jet hematite filling in the middle of the wider spaces between the crystal and black diamond rhinestones. E6000 creates a nice strong bond when gluing rhinestones to plastic, so this is my adhesive of choice for this project. Make sure you use this glue in a well-ventilated area and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. E6000 tends to be a bit gloppy so when I use E6000, I like to squeeze a bit over a paper plate and use a toothpick to scrape the amount of glue needed. I began with gluing all crystal rhinestones around the outer edge first. I began at the top placing the rhinestones touching and as I went down the pendant, spaced the rhinestones out from one another. Place a drop of glue slightly smaller that the rhinestone on the pendant and with the wax tipped tool or tweezers, pick up a rhinestone and gently press it into the glue drop. I glued the black diamond rhinestones with the same spacing as the crystal: starting at the top placing the rhinestones next to each other and spacing the rhinestones out as I continued down the inside edge. The pendant is wider on the sides and the bottom so there was some spacing that needed some sparkle. I glued jet hematite rhinestones in this area with random spacing between. When done gluing the rhinestones, allow to dry for 24 hours. What a noticeable difference in pendants! The original piece was bland and boring, with no glamour but this new piece is fun, festive, sparkly and perfect for that casual outfit or formal dress that needs an extra touch of sparkle!
