DIY Bling Christmas Ornaments with our Free TemplateChristmas arrives shortly after the shortest day of the year and when the darkness of night is at its peak. However, twinkling holiday lights hold the promise of hope. Additionally, glittery decorations on the tree add a festive and magical glow. Instead of buying expensive bling Christmas ornaments, use our template to make your own. Make Beautiful Bling Christmas Ornaments Using Our Template If you want to take your decoration up a notch this year, why not create beautiful, bedazzled ornaments? Crystal rhinestone decorations offer an incredible play of light with a magical shimmer against the backdrop of lights. Yet, often the trouble with blinging round ornaments lies with planning the design and spacing. For example, when creating bedazzling clothes, you can lay out the garment flat to check the rhinestone pattern. This can be impossible with a round object. While straight lines and scatter patterns are fairly simple, swirls and curves prove problematic. Often, you begin your gluing rhinestones with high hopes, only to find your spacing is off. Sometimes, crafters will create templates using a Cricut. This machine can precisely create custom designs. However, a Cricut can easily cost several hundred dollars. Instead, our template can help you create complicated, intricate designs. The grid lines allow you to carefully plan the design and spacing of each rhinestone flat back gem. Our rhinestone ornament template is a flat representation of a typical 8-inch round ball. If you have a smaller or larger ornament, you can shrink or enlarge our template. Or, you can create your own by creating a single segment and then connecting the segments to make a sphere. The Best Rhinestones For Bedazzling Ornaments Typically, high quality rhinestones create the most play of light. Manufacturers create sparkle through the use of three key characteristics. 1. Material Generally, manufacturers use one of 3 different materials to make rhinestones:
Each material has certain properties for absorbing and reflecting light. Overall, crystal rhinestones are the best imitators of real gems for a diamond like sparkle. 2. Number of Facets Facets are flat surfaces cut on the rhinestone’s surface. These facets act as mirrors, reflecting light to the viewer’s eye. While generally more facets create more sparkle, the arrangement and symmetry of facets are equally important. 3. Arrangement of Facets Typically, rhinestones with a more complex facet pattern appear more sparkling to the human eye. Brand name crystal rhinestone manufacturers carefully calculate facet arrangement to optimize the light interaction. Choosing Your Bedazzling Glue and Storing Your Bling Christmas Ornaments Typically, most manufacturers use glass or plastic to make Christmas ornaments. Several glue manufacturers recommend their product for these surface types. For example, Aleene’s makes several different adhesives that are suitable for gluing rhinestones. However, many crafters forget to think about storage when choosing their glue. Furthermore, some glues aren’t resistant to high temperatures. Often, many people store Christmas ornaments in their attic. However, summertime attic heat can rise above the maximum heat resistance of many glues. As heat affects the glue bond, the crystal rhinestones can shift from their original positions. Although E6000 can withstand higher temperatures, the constant exposure to attic heat may weaken the glue bond. Thus, you may want to store your bling ornaments in a more temperature-controlled environment. Sometimes, when you use crafting items differently than their intended purpose, the result is something unexpectedly beautiful. Embossing powder is generally used for card making and heated after applied to give it a nice glossy look. I liked the fine particle sparkle of the power and used it in this DIY Christmas tree ornament. Due to its painted pattern, this project is a little more difficult than most of my previous DIY ornaments. However, don’t let the difficulty of it intimidate you as try to create your own easy pattern. For this project I used: 1 green ornament Metallic Silver acrylic craft paint Silver embossing powder Peridot 12ss rhinestones Paint brush Wax tipped tool or tweezers How to Make a Christmas Tree ornament Pick out a design you wish to paint on the ornament. It may be useful if you can find a template or pattern to copy. Using the metallic silver paint, paint your design on the ornament once section at a time. While the paint is still wet, sprinkle the embossing powder over the painted areas. Brush off the excess powder. Continue painting and sprinkling embossing power until your design is complete. If possible, hang you ornament to dry. Generally, embossing powder is heated to produce a glossing look. However, I left the power unheated as I liked the grainy look on the shiny ornament. Gluing Rhinestones to the Ornament Next, I glue Peridot 12ss rhinestones within my design to add extra sparkle. Either E6000 or Gem Tac works well for this project. Because I could use slightly less adhesive and because of the strong bond, I chose to use E6000. Gem Tac tends to leave glue marks once it dries on the ornament. Use a toothpick to apply E6000 to the ornament. Then using a wax tipped tool or tweezers, pick up a rhinestone and gently press it into the glue. Keep on gluing rhinestones, accentuating the painted/embossed areas. Allow to dry for 24 hours. Need rhinestones to get started making your own sparkly ornaments? DIY: Download Our Christmas Tree Rhinestone TemplateYou want to make your own blinged out shirt but you never blinged anything before. While straight lines and scatter patterns don’t seem too difficult, they’re much too boring to do. Besides, you were hoping for something more. But you’re not artsy and you can’t draw even draw anything better than a stick figure. You’ve looked in the craft stores. However, their rhinestone transfer designs are expensive, and they use cheaper rhinestones. Creating Your Rhinestone DesignRhinestone templates are a great place to begin. A template gives you the number of rhinestones, what sizes used and the placement of rhinestones. Even if you are a newbie, pictures are easy to make with rhinestones. Plus, you can follow the rhinestone template exactly or you can experiment with different rhinestone sizes and colors. There are two popular ways to apply the rhinestones: hotfix rhinestones and transfer paper or glue on. Hotfix Rhinestone TransfersThe easiest way to affix a rhinestone picture to a shirt is with the use of hotfix rhinestones. Hotfix rhinestones have glue on the backsides. When they are heated, the glue is activated. After the glue cools, a permanent bond forms. Using hot fix transfer paper makes rhinestone transfers super easy. This paper has 2 parts, a non-sticky and a sticky sheet. First, lay the template on a flat surface. Separate the transfer paper, laying the clear sticky piece on top of the template, sticky side up. Then simply place the rhinestones in the correct positions, facet side down and glue side up, following the template. Now you are ready to apply your transfer. Heat your iron up so that It reaches a temperature of 250°F to 340°F without steam. Position your hot fix transfer and press down with the iron for 12-15 seconds. Do not slide the iron as this may dislodge and move the rhinestones. Continue picking up the iron and pressing down until the glue on all the rhinestones has been activated. Glue on methodGluing rhinestones with an adhesive is a little harder. I usually lay the design out with the rhinestones on the shirt following the template. This way, you can see the spacing and placement before gluing. Once you are satisfied with the design, pick up one rhinestone with a wax tipped tool from the shirt. Place a drop of glue slightly smaller than the rhinestone on the shirt. Gently press the rhinestone into the glue drop. Keep on gluing in the manner until all the rhinestones are glue in place. Let dry flat for 24 hours. And with Christmas just around the corner, you will love our new Christmas template. Moreover, all of our rhinestone placement charts are always free to print. But add lace and rhinestones and the ornament becomes exquisite. Simple to make, anyone can make these beautiful DIY Christmas ornaments. For this project I used: 1 red glittery red ornament (purchased at Target) White lace 12ss red rhinestones Gem Tac Wax tipped tool or tweezers How to make Rhinestone and Lace Christmas Ornaments Cut 2 pieces of lace the circumference of the ornament. Smaller width lace tends to work better. and I used ¾ of an inch lace. Remove the top silver part of the ornament. Gem Tac is a popular adhesive for bonding fabrics and embellishments. It works great on gluing the lace to the ornament. Glue one strip of lace starting at the top, going down to the bottom and back up to the top. On the opposite side, glue on other piece of lace. Let dry completely. Place the top back on the ornament. Gluing on the Rhinestones Now to glue on the rhinestones. Place a drop of glue, slightly smaller than the rhinestones. Using the tweezers or wax tipped tool, pick up a rhinestone and gently press it into the glue drop. The glue should seep slightly out from the edges. Continue gluing until your rhinestone is embellished. Allow to dry for 24 hours. These DIY Christmas ornaments are truly something special. How to make you own rhinestone Christmas tree ornament Old fashioned Christmas ornaments evoke a certain nostalgia as they bring together our past and present. This DIY Christmas tree ornament is easy and perfect for crafters of all skill levels. Cut a piece of lace to fit the crown (about 8.5 inches) and a piece about 12 inches. Glue the smaller piece around the crown of the hat using Gem Tac. Tie a bow in the 12 inch piece of lace and if you want, place a drop of glue on the knot to secure it. Set aside. To glue the rhinestones along the brim, place a drop of glue slightly smaller than the rhinestone on the brim. Using the wax tipped tool, pick up a rhinestone and gently press it into the glue drop. Rhinestones and wax tipped tool are available from: www.RhinestonesEtc.com How to make your own festive Christmas tags Wrapping presents is fun so why not go full out with special, personalized DIY Christmas tags? Easy to make, these tags are festive and embody every aspect of the Christmas season! For this project I used: Green card stock Music sheet Glue (glue stick and craft glue) Instant coffee Silver ribbon Silver or gold metal studs (stars and 4 mm round studs) First, I made copies of some music sheets I had. If you don’t have any you can probably find some sheet music at your local library and make copies. Next, I stained them with coffee to give the music sheets an old time look. To stain with coffee, place about ¼ cup of instant coffee on a cookie sheet. (I used fresh ground coffee and that worked as well). Pour boiling water into cookie sheet about halfway to the top edge of cookie sheet. Allow to cool to lukewarm. Place your music sheets into the coffee water making sure to coat both sides with coffee water. Remove and place on a clean cookie sheet. To dry, you can use 1 of 2 methods. You can dry with a hair dryer or like I did place in the oven. Watch your papers carefully as you do not want to start a fire. Place in a preheated 200 degree oven for 5 -10 minutes, again watching carefully and removing as soon as dry. Cut out Christmas tree shapes from the music sheets and then slightly larger Christmas tree shapes from the green card stock. Glue the silver ribbon to the top using a glue stick and then glue the music sheet Christmas tree on top. Embellish the tag with the metal studs gluing a star at the top and scattering the 4 mm circles using craft glue. Don't just stop with the fancy wrapping paper; create these DIY Christmas tags as a final touch to any gift. Your recipient will love it!
DIY Christmas Tree Ornament Sometimes all it takes is some odds and ends, a bit of lace and some pearls to make something striking. This rustic Christmas tree ornament is effortless to make and perfect for decorating. For this project I used: 1 clear plastic ornament Lace E6000 or Gem Tac Flat back pearls size 10ss Crystal 12ss rhinestones Wax tipped tool Begin by measuring the length of the ornament from top to down around the bottom and up to the other side. Cut 2 pieces of lace this length. I used E6000 to glue the lace into place and then Gem tac to glue the pearls. I generally prefer to use Gem Tac, but last time I used Gem tac on lace it yellowed. Glue lace onto the ornament and allow to dry. Although you can’t see very clearly from the picture, I alternated between pearls and crystal 12ss rhinestones on the lace and used just pearls alongside the lace. Please a drop of glue slightly smaller than the pearl on the ornament. With your wax tipped tool, pick up a pearl and gently press it into the glue drop. Repeat the process until your ornament is embellished. Allow to dry for 24 hours. Tie a piece of jute string along the top. Classic DIY rustic Christmas ornament that is simple to make.

Celebrating the holiday with a bejeweled Christmas tree didn’t become popular in America until the 1800s. Immigrant Germans brought the tradition with them to their new home and introduced the concept to their new neighbors. At first, Americans decorated their trees with homespun decorations, but soon began using jeweled Christmas ornaments. Here, we’ll give you instructions to make your own.
Gather Your Materials To Make Your Rhinestone Christmas Ornament The popularity of bling Christmas ornaments began in the small German town of Lauscha back in the 16th century. A glassmaker began creating baubles to decorate Christmas trees. As the years passed, decorations became increasingly popular and more extravagant. Today, rhinestone Christmas ornaments are a beloved favorite with their enchanting play of light. While jeweled Christmas tree ornaments are stunning, they’re also expensive. However, you can make bling decorations for a fraction of the cost. Of course, you can personalize your decorations with different colors and designs. However, to replicate the pictured ornament, you’ll need these supplies:
When choosing your materials, remember that manufacturers make varying quality products. For example, the cheapest rhinestones will give your ornament the least amount of sparkle.
Choose Your Pattern
If you own a Cricut, you can create intricate patterns to create stunning Christmas decorations. However, not everyone owns one of these expensive machines. Alternatively, you can also create your pattern using our free ornament template. The template’s flat surface can help you lay out your design before you start gluing. However, for this bling project, we will use a scatter pattern. This rhinestone design has a fluid structure, and requires random rhinestone placement. To begin, find the middle of the ornament with your tape measure and mark it with chalk. This will be your guide when gluing rhinestones, as the crystals will center around this line. For this design, most of the rhinestones will be peridot, with the rose-colored crystals sprinkled among the green.
Step-by-Step Instructions To Create A Jeweled Christmas Ornament
It’s easy to create a sparkling rhinestone Christmas ornament by using the following steps: 1. Apply Glue Some adhesives dry quickly, so you’ll want to work in small sections. Also, when working with certain glues, like E6000, work in a well-ventilated area. Place a drop of glue slightly smaller than the crystal rhinestone on the ornament, on or near the chalk line. Tip: E6000 has a quick set time. To prevent glue from hardening before you have a chance to use it, squeeze the tube just a little bit. I also place a paper plate under the nozzle to catch any extra glue that drips out. Then, use a toothpick to scrape some glue and apply it to the ornament. Of course, you can also buy special syringe bottles and tips to use with this glue.
2. Set Rhinestones in the Glue
Using a wax-tipped tool or tweezers, pick up a crystal rhinestone and place it onto the glue. Continue adding stones, increasing the spacing as you move out from the middle. Since this is a scattering of rhinestones, there is no real pattern and no way to do it wrong.
3. Finish and Dry
All rhinestone glues have varying set and curing times. In a certain amount of time, the glue will harden enough so that you can no longer move the bedazzling gem. However, the glue won’t reach its full strength until its cure time. Most rhinestone adhesives need 24 hours to reach full strength.

How to make a yarn Christmas tree Each year, the day after Thanksgiving, my kids beg me to take out our Christmas decorations to display around the house. Maybe it’s because decorations add that touch of festivity and magic, they look forward to decorating the house each year. This year, I’ve added a new one to our collection. This Christmas tree is easy to make and can be customized to fit any Christmas theme For this project I used: Green yarn White glue (any brand will do) Paper plate Plastic knife Cone shaped Styrofoam (the one I used was about 10 inches long) Aluminum foil Tape Gem Tac Crystal AB 10ss rhinestones Wax tipped tool Begin by wrapping the Styrofoam cone with aluminum foil, taping the ends together. I found it easier to start with shorter pieces of yarn, between 12-14 inches. As I added layers of yarn, I used longer pieces of about 24 inches long. The yarn needs to be saturated with white glue and this can be done different ways. You can squeeze the glue into a bowl and mix the yarn in or as I did, place the yarn on a paper plate squeeze glue along the length of the yarn, scrape with the plastic knife and repeat until the yarn is good and gluey. Wrap the gluey yarn around the aluminum covered cone. Continue adding gluey yarn until cone is nicely wrapped. I found it easier to do this in several layers, letting each layer dry completely. Slide the tree off the Styrofoam form and remove the aluminum foil. Using Gem-Tac, add Crystal AB 10ss rhinestones randomly along the tree. Place a drop of glue about the size of the rhinestone anywhere on the tree. Using the wax tipped tool, pick up a rhinestone and gently press it into the glue drop. Continue gluing rhinestones until you are satisfied with the amount of sparkle. Allow to dry for 24 hours. Now you have your very own handmade Christmas tree that can be easily personalized to fit in with any Christmas theme. On the mantel , bookshelf or as a table centerpiece, this will be a favorite for years to come.
Rhinestones and wax tipped tool are available from: www.RhinestonesEtc.com How to make a rhinestone Christmas Tree Ornament Growing up, there were certain ornaments on the Christmas tree that were special. Now that I am older, I still have special ornaments but they have different meanings, our first Christmas together, baby’s first Christmas or that High School Musical ornament that my daughter got when she was 8 and played the music over and over again, driving us all crazy. You can make this beautiful ornament and give to that someone special so that you will be remembered. For this project I used: 1 silver ornament Sapphire 12ss PriceLess Rhinestones Crystal 12ss PriceLess Rhinestones Gem Tac Wax tipped tool Chalk I like to lightly sketch the design on the ornament with chalk to use as a guide. When you are done gluing, you can easily wipe the chalk marks away. Once you’ve settled on a design, place a drop of glue about the size of the rhinestone on the guide chalk marks. Pick up a rhinestone using the wax tipped tool and gently press it into the glue. Don’t worry about keeping the design symmetrical and use the chalk lines as guides I added several crystal rhinestones scattered between the sapphire rhinestones. Allow to dry for 24 hours. Using a paper towel, wipe off any stray chalk marks. Now you have your own special ornament to build memories around!
